The ACE Tennis Academy (Atlanta GA) Story

The original Atlanta’s Court Elite (ACE) Tennis Academy started with two driven tennis coaches and six determined students training four hours per day. These committed coaches provided personalized attention to their athletes in an intensive training environment. It was not long before the players were winning local, sectional, national, and international tournaments. The Academy produced 8 national champions within the first few years of operation.  That success drew attention!

This spurred growth and before long, ACE Tennis Academy had developed over 500 players, employed The Academy produced 8 national champions within the first few years ... over 30 coaches, and managed seven locations around the Southeastern U.S. – making it the one of the largest academies in the country.

The newest location of the ACE Tennis Academy is conveniently located at The Fields Club just north of Atlanta, GA. The club includes 16 lighted hard courts divided among two popular neighborhoods – Amberfield and Riverfield – in the heart of Norcross, GA. Both locations include eight courts plus a pool and clubhouse. Check out this website for more information

ACE will be opening a second site at Horseshoe Bend Country Club in Spring 2010!

Meet the Staff:

After receiving his BA from Presbyterian College, and M.Ed. from the University of Georgia, Walter joined on as head pro of ACE Academy. Walter, a USPTA Certified Tennis Professional, USTA Certified Sports Science Level 1 and 2, is a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and is the head counselor for Progressive Athletics.  He is the only junior development coach who is also a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia.

“We are passionate about developing tennis players into world-class athletes. The lifelong values that our students learn are intrinsic and we look forward to continually playing an integral part in our player’s lives and their respective future careers.”

The current ACE Tennis Academy has 75 players training with 5 coaches, many of these coaches being former graduates of ACE. What a great CULTURE to develop.

Below is a brief description of their framework for success

This group is for the player desiring to achieve a high state, sectional, national, or ITF ranking. Our training sessions provide a perfect setting for players to master “executing under pressure”. Juniors will work on the five main ways of applying pressure and will learn when to apply each type. Juniors will also learn how to play and win against various game styles: “The Pusher”, “The Baseliner”, and “The Serve & Volley Game”. Emphasis will be on shot selection, patterns of movement, and maintaining control under pressure. The ability to go deep into every point without losing focus or making poor choices...or pushing! We create drills that allow players to feel the pressure of playing. This helps to keep players intense during live ball drills. Players learn to hold themselves accountable for their choices, or their effort level. Players practice having a purpose to every shot!

This group is for juniors who have little to no tournament experience but show a desire to compete. These juniors have usually played successfully on an ALTA / USTA team and are looking to take their game to the next level. The Pre-Academy provides a fun and exciting atmosphere for juniors to learn the basic skills needed for competition. Emphasis will be on stroke development, court positioning, balance, and simple strategies to teach young players how “not to beat themselves.”
